7/26/26 - 1 Samuel 23

As we continue our study of 1 Samuel which started with Hannah asking for Samuel, Israel asking for Saul and God asking for David, we are in a part of David’s life he did not expect and if we did not know the story, we would not expect it to go this way either. For a shepherd boy to be the one that God chooses to be king of his people. For a shepherd boy to be the one to kill the giant with a slingshot. For a shepherd boy to play music for the king to settle his soul. It looked like he was going to be the king, the path was clear. But then the jealousy, the hatred from the world, the hatred from religion, the hatred from the one Israel chose against the one that God chose. David went from hero to the most wanted fugitive. On the run for his life. But in this valley, this trial, this fire, God is putting together the kingdom David will rule over. He brought him an army, made up of distressed, in debt, and discontented men, men who knew they were poor in Spirit. He brought the prophet Gad, he brought the Priest Abiathar. You have God’s king and kingdom being hunted by Israels king and kingdom. You have the enemy of God hunting the Man of God. This brings us to chapter 23.
