What we find in this passage is sinful humans attempting to serve, mediate between God and man. Because of their sinfulness they will treat the Lord’s sacrifice with contempt. Because of God’s Holiness, they must die. It is not because God is not compassionate or impatient or unloving. Humans sin cannot be in the presence of God and live. It is not that God cannot look on sin, when He does it will be judged. The judgment is death.
